Fire Lookout

This photo was taken earlier this year. A friend of mine and I took a "Minnesota Winter Road Trip" to Arizona (seems everyone in Minnesota goes there and we'd never been, so we thought we'd try it out) and one of the places we had stopped was Chiricahua National Monument. We had a list of a lot of places we wanted to visit, but didn't have a set plan. We'd just see what was around when we were done with one thing and head to the next. Its my favorite way to travel, honestly. Anyways.. there was a trail called Sugarloaf Mountain Trail. We weren't sure if we'd make it all the way to the top of the mountain but we like overlooks so we thought we'd give it a try. We keep going and going and then we saw the roof and we knew we were close to the overlook, but we were surprised and excited to see a Fire Lookout at the top of the mountain. We thought the roof was for a picnic table or something to enjoy the scenery as we more often see on overlooks. The reason we were so excited was because 1. Its awesome and we've never come across one before and 2. We both played a game called Firewatch and this lookout was layed out exactly like the one in the game. So it was pretty exciting. We examined the items inside and compared it to the items in the game. Plenty of other pictures were taken and then we just hung out for awhile and enjoyed the view. After a little digging I found that this particular lookout is called the Sugarloaf Mountain Lookout and was built in 1935. It is linked with the Barfoot Lookout to cover the National Monument as well as the nearby Coronado National Forest. — at Chiricahua National Monument.
